Employment Literacy Lab
Do you know someone who is looking for employment but struggles because they can’t read or write? Would improving their literacy skills give them the opportunity to find jobs or improve their current employment?
The Employment Literacy Lab is a free 10-week program dedicated to helping adults who are actively looking for employment and are reading and writing below the 7th grade level. Project Read provides students with the skills to be able to improve their standard of living through literacy.
Project Read tutors students using instructional materials designed to teach adults basic life skills such as filling out employment applications, creating a budget, or depositing money in a bank. Project Read assesses each student’s literacy skills, develops an individual learning plan, and sets goals with the students. These goals and materials help students progress beyond subsistence-level employment by helping them increase their literacy skills, which in turn helps them acquire and keep higher paying jobs.
