In addition to one-on-one tutoring, Project Read offers Literacy Labs for students to meet together and learn in small groups. Although one-on-one tutoring remains crucial for students to receive individualized instruction, participating in lab helps students’ literacy skills progress faster and gives them opportunities to use those skills in real world settings.
Literacy Lab Hours
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 1-2 :30p m or 5:30-7 pm
The Project Read Literacy Lab is a group instruction experience designed to help students improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills and fulfill their six-hour weekly commitment. During the first hour of lab, the literacy specialist teaches a short lesson to the entire group. The last half hour of lab is used for one-on-one time where students work with the literacy specialist or lab volunteers on individual projects and assignments. While there is always a planned lesson, Project Read students are encouraged to bring their own homework assignments, personal projects, or other goals to work on during the second hour of lab.
