Book Club

We find interesting classics and contemporary books to read together as a book club. We read novels, biographies, young adult fiction, and poetry to increase our comprehension, fluency, and cultural literacy. Most books are at an intermediate level and we adjust our reading pace in lab so everyone can participate—either by reading out loud or by having the experience of being read to and following along. We have several copies of our book club sets so tutors and students can read along together.

New book starting in January 2023

The bestselling memoir by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.

“Malala Yousafzai was ten years old when the Taliban took control of her region. Raised in a once-peaceful area of Pakistan transformed by terrorism, Malala was taught to stand up for what she believes. So in a time when girls were forbidden from going to school, she fought for her right to be educated. On October 9, 2012, she was shot point-blank while riding the bus on her way home from school.

No one expected her to survive.

Now Malala is an international symbol of peaceful protest. In this Young Readers Edition of her bestselling memoir, which includes exclusive material and photos and has been updated with a new epilogue, we hear firsthand the remarkable story of a girl who refused to be silenced.

Malala’s powerful story will open your eyes to another world and will make you believe that one child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world.”
