Literacy Lab is a small-group setting where students and volunteers practice and apply literacy skills. Volunteers help by reading out loud, participating in simple games and discussions, sharing experiences, and assisting students one-one-one with practice activities. Because our students are at different levels, volunteers allow the lab experience to be individualized and applicable to the students’ own learning. Volunteering in lab, at least once a month, is a quick, fun way to give back and change lives.
In order to remain active, lab volunteers are asked to commit to help in one lab session per month. Volunteers who sign up are given first priority. We cannot always guarantee a spot in the class for walk ins.
