When Brianna first came to Project Read, she knew she wanted more from her education. Having been homeschooled as a child, she felt she had missed out on the educational foundation she needed to reach her goals. She wanted to move forward, but she wasn't sure she had the skills to get there.

“I was very timid at first because I wasn't sure if I had the drive and skills to be successful,” she recalls. “Once I got started, I realized the program was awesome!”

Brianna embraced reading and writing classes and book club, discovering a love of reading along the way. She even found her first favorite author, Alan Gratz, and went on to buy and read all his books. But her greatest discoveries were about herself: what she could learn, what she could accomplish, and what might be possible for her future.

With the support of her tutor, Sharon, Brianna worked hard toward her GED. She has passed the science, language arts, and social studies sections and continues preparing for the math section. Along the way, she also gained a better understanding of her dyslexia through a connection with Rocky Mountain University. With new learning strategies, GED accommodations, and patient support, she has strengthened her reading skills and grown more comfortable speaking in front of others.

Her accomplishments speak for themselves. Brianna earned her driver's license in February 2025 and graduated from Project Read in February 2026. She was also awarded the Continuing Education Scholarship, which supports women pursuing further education.

With guidance from Proxima Careers, Brianna explored her options and found her calling in health care. Her plan is to become a certified nursing assistant, continue to nursing school, and ultimately become a nurse practitioner. For her, a career in nursing means more than a job. It means building a more secure future and creating opportunities she once wasn't sure were within reach.

“I feel empowered by my successes so far,” Brianna says. “I feel like I can go to college and succeed in my goals.”
